Driving the Ferrari California Turbo Is it stick?

Ferrari California Turbo How to drive a paddle shift car

Have you ever wanted to drive the Ferrari California Turbo!? But then you wonder, is it stick? Many people struggle with the idea of a manual transmission. Some people are able to drive a manual transmission, but they are nervous having to do so on a $200k Ferrari! No need to fear however, because Ferrari has equipped the Ferrari California Turbo with a paddle shift controller for its transmission.

How does a paddle shift transmission work actually? While the internal components are complicated, the experience of driving a Ferrari California Turbo with paddle shift is actually very easy! There is no clutch pedal, there is no need to shift the car yourself (unless you want to), and the experience is very similar to driving an automatic transmission. Sound boring? Simply turn off the automatic shifting option and grab a paddle to change gears up and down whenever you desire. The beauty of the paddle shift transmission is that you can decide if you want to drive an automatic or not, and you can change your mind at any time. read more

Christian Bale Cast As Enzo in an Upcoming Ferrari Movie

Ferrari movie

It has been confirmed that the biography style Ferrari movie coming out by Michael Mann will place Christian Bale as Enzo Ferrari. While the exotic car icon may have passed in 1988, his legacy still holds strong behind a logo that will likely be instantly recognizable for all of time.

Enzo Ferrari in his youth.

Enzo Ferrari in his…non-youth. Pop quiz: Would you rather be Enzo Ferrari or Hugh Heffner?

The title is not yet announced, but could be called simply “Ferrari”. For that reason, it will be referred to as Ferrari movie for the general purposes of this article. The work is intended as a deep look at the expansive brand history through the eyes of its creator, Enzo Ferrari. It is said to be a project near to revered director Sydney Pollack’s heart. Michael Mann has paired with Pollack to bring the vision to life on the big screen with big stars and hopefully enough traction to make a hit. Will it be as well-followed as the iconic Fast and Furious series? Not likely. Will fans of all types of automotive brands, not just the Horse, race to see it? Absolutely. Especially if they toss in a few scantily clad actresses as hot as Megan Fox was in Transformers struggling under that hood. read more

Why Ferrari Took Over a Gas Station

Luxury automaker and branding guru Ferrari has surprised the masses by acquiring temporary rights to a certain gas station. The move has nothing to do with any sort of energy battle, but rather, a unique way to allow fans to interact with the brand called ‘Casa Ferrari’. When I first heard of the story, my initial thought was that the Prancing Horse had perhaps purchased a gas station near one of their testing sites, alas, it was something completely different!

Casa Ferrari took Pebble Beach and Monterey Car Week by storm. The best way to get a feel for just how all-encompassing this event was is to take in the short clip above: read more

Ferrari 488 Spyder: She Has Appearance and Acoustics

Ferrari 488 Spyder

Details are finally out of the stable for the latest Prancing Horse: The Ferrari 488 Spyder will replace the much-adored 458 with her own set of perks. While the official debut for the machine is slated for the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show in September, we all know that secrets are tough to keep in this industry!

The short clip of the Ferrari 488 Spyder above will make a believer out of you: Just listen to that delicious throaty rumble!

The Ferrari 488 Spyder at a glance:

  • The engine is a pristine 3.9-liter turbocharged V8, though the horsepower has been jacked to 660 with 560 pound-feet of torque.
  • Unique retractable hard top folds neatly into 2 overlapping flush sections over the engine. Word is that it can be controlled in about 14 seconds.
  • Space frame chassis
  • Seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and Side Slip Control 2 to keep her on the road.
  • Aerodynamics and drag have been meticulously addressed to ensure similar performance to the hardtop standards.
  • The center console is now a sort of central tunnel, making all of her gadgetry easy to access in the cockpit while operating.
  • Design house Pininfarina had no hand in this model, though the distinctive styling cues from previous projects did carry over. The relationship between Ferrari and Pininfarina has always led to incredibly beautiful features and flow.

All of these changes coupled with revisited cosmetics allow the Ferrari 488 Spyder to achieve speeds over 200 miles per hour. The not to 60 mile per hour sprint is hit in 3.0 seconds, with 124 miles per hour reached in 8.7 seconds. We expect the 488 Spyder to take center stage at the Frankfurt Auto Show next month and give gearheads worldwide something to talk about for quite a while. read more

Is Maserati the New Fiat Flagship?

Maserati

Now that Ferrari is to become a bit separated from the rest of the family at Fiat, will luxury brand Maserati become the new flagship? Just last year Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne announced that the prestigious Ferrari brand would be spun off into its own sort-of entity in order to receive healthier gains for the company overall. What that means is that the majority of Ferrari shares remain with FCA, but now others have the ability to purchase stakes for the first time ever.

With Ferrari in it’s own  cozy stable, does that make Maserati the new kingpin? According to some sources, Fiat is now grooming Maserati to become even more of a marquee than it already is, which would make it the Fiat front runner. Marchionne stated that Maserati is to become “the most coveted, exclusive brand that we have.” read more
