Rumor has it that Rolls Royce could be poised to embrace the carbon fiber trend, albeit tentatively. Some speculate that the brand is toying with a lineup featuring the  lightweight material favored by racing and exotic carmakers.

The idea would be a specific range of carbon fiber laden Rolls Royce cars crafted in-house. The carbon fiber coach building would mark the first use for the brand, which is known for its heavyweight contenders tipping the highest ends of the curb weight scales. The special carbon fiber edition Rolls Royce cars will likely retain that burdensome steel chassis, with the carbon fiber accents intended for aesthetics alone.

Will it work?

When people spend the amount of money required to own a luxury car like a Rolls Royce, they often want more than the standard offering. That is why approximately 90% of Rolls Royce owners order their vehicles with at least one custom feature, many with much more. This preference to personalize leads to the solid conclusion that buyers would indeed go for the option to add carbon fiber design cues and components to their cars, and that the first fleet released would be a hit. Once the initial special editions sold, it would likely become a permanent option for Rolls Royce customers to choose from. 

While carbon fiber is extremely durable and lightweight, Rolls Royce automobiles are not:

None of the Rolls Royce girls are light, but perhaps diving into the carbon fiber trend could see changes for the future in both weight and performance.
