Let’s forget for a moment that the front-end of this luxury Jaguar looks like it has been blown up like a piece of bubble-gum and appreciate how awesome the effect is.  It is truly unfortunate that this 1952 Jaguar is not made any longer; it is so classically gorgeous and was ahead of its time.

Phil Hill’s pristine 52’ Jaguar C-Type was the first one to be imported and thereby introduced to the United States market.  Phil Hill was the first driver of this exotic car, and kept meticulous care of it throughout the length of his life-we completely understand his devotion.

RM Auctions sold off the Nick Alexander Woodie collection, and moved on for the kill-Phil’s 1952 Jaguar C-Type in mint condition.  The sale was the highlight of the auction, as bidding immediately surpassed the $1,000,000 mark to an astounding final sale price of $2,530,000.  (Ok, you can close your jaws now).

To further dumbfound, despite the recent economic downturn that has heavily impacted the collector car market, RM Auctions managed to unload a staggering 85% of the 239 collector cars it had on the chopping block.  Among those exotic collector cars who found new homes were:

•    A 1955 Aston Martin DB3S for $1,980,000
•    A Duesenberg Model SJ Convertible Coupe for $1,430,000

The no-sales included a 1938 Talbot Lago T120 with an asking bid of $950,000, a 2006 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 at $900,000 and a 1953 Ferrari 166MM Spider Scaglietti at $1,100,000.  If you are itching for the exotic, remember there are Aston Martin rentals, Ferrari rentals and other exotic car rentals available for you anytime!
