Lexus Builds Final LFA Supercar

It seems like yesterday I gripped the glorious wheel of a Lexus LFA supercar on Homestead track in Miami. The gravity-defying lap around the embankment turns with master driver Hiromu Naruse at the wheel showcased what the brand’s first supercar was truly made of. Now, the last of the 500 units being produced is rolling off of the production line. The final model is a white LFA Nurburgring package, and she is stunning!

The final unit of the first-ever Lexus supercar was produced on December 14th, 2012

The production process for the Lexus LFA requires many hands, 170 hand-selected workers in total. Imagine Lifestyles drove the LFA back in 2009, and production is just now completed. That is because just one LFA is created per day with meticulous attention to detail.

The base price for the LFA is $375,000, making it the most expensive Japanese road car ever built

Review of the LFA specs:

  • 4.8-liter V10
  • 560 horsepower
  • 0-60 sprint in 3.7 seconds
  • Top speed of 202 miles per hour

LF-A chief engineer, Haruhiko Tanahashi, stated “I’ve lived and breathed supercars for the past decade. Specifically one supercar, LFA. Very few people have the opportunity we had to create a world-class supercar from a blank sheet of paper.”

Master test driver Hiromu Naruse also lived and breathed the LFA and truly enjoyed showing its capabilities. Tragically, Naruse passed away following an LFA crash on the Nurburgring during testing. To honor him, the company is moving forward with Naruse’s pet project, an affordable hatch/city car concept. What is next, Lexus? Can we expect an LFA roadster version?
