Will The Koenigsegg One Be the Next Fastest Production Car?

The folks at Koenigsegg are making some hefty claims about their latest hypercar, the Koenigsegg One. They say that not only can it top the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport’s top speed, but that it can get there twice as fast. The Veyron Super Sport currently holds the title as the world’s fastest production car, with a heart-stopping top speed of 268 miles per hour.

Talk of the Koenigsegg One has been going on for a while, but the beast has finally been confirmed by founder Christian von Koenigsegg.

The Swedish company claims that the Koenigsegg One has a cheek-flapping top speed of 280 miles per hour. This is thanks to an astonishing feat: it may be the first production supercar to achieve a one-to-one ratio of power to weight. To shock even further, they claim that this one-to-one power/weight ratio will remain even with all necessary fluids and the driver inside. Outstanding, sirs.

Koenigsegg One

The word “One” on the name is intended to communicate the unbelievable power to weight ratio of one.

The Koenigsegg One at a glance:

  • The curb weight of 1,400 kilograms (3,086 pounds) and the output of 1,400 horses achieve the monumental power to weight ratio of just one. Koenigsegg said that others have claimed this ratio, but that it was with a completely dry and driverless car. The fluids and driver add considerable weight, which then changes the official ratio.
  • The One can hit 248.55 miles per hour in just 20 seconds.
  • Top speed is estimated at 279.62 miles per hour. If this hits production, it will beat the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport without a doubt for the coveted title.

The Koenigsegg One could be the next generation of the popular and performance-based Agera line. As of now, the Koenigsegg One prototype is being tested. Word is that just six units will be built and that they are all spoken for in China. I do not need to own One, I simply must see a Bugatti Veyron SS and a Koenigsegg One duel it out repeatedly on an airstrip somewhere.
