In the wake of 27-year-old Amy Winehouse’s early exit from the world, some recall her ties to Miami. The British singer was married at the Miami-Dade courthouse in 2007 to Blake Fielder-Civil in a small civil ceremony. She was 23 and he was 25 at the time and the (reportedly) drug-infused union that occurred on May 18th, 2007 only endured a tumultuous two years.

The young couple did not make our list of Top 10 Most Expensive Celebrity Divorces. In January of 2009, Winehouse told London newspapers that she had “forgotten I’m even married to Blake… Our whole marriage was based on doing drugs.”

It was Winehouse’s only wedding and it occurred four years ago, just as her career was taking off in the United States and her addiction issues were making headlines in England. The young Winehouse came to Miami for a vacation, and ended up getting married at the Miami-Dade County Courthouse license bureau in downtown.

Official county records state the bride as Amy Jade Winehouse, and that the couple were Florida residents, which may have been overstated. Winehouse’s parents have often blamed Fielder-Civil for their daughter’s substance-abuse issues, which may well have sparked inspiration for her famous rebellious ballad.

Some feel her drug use was not a cry for help, as she often resisted treatment and simply went about living the life she wanted to live. It was merely a lifestyle choice that may have cost her life (this is pure speculation at this point, as no autopsy is available yet).
Rest in peace, Amy Winehouse, yet another member of the ‘Forever 27 Club’, which sadly includes influential artist who have died at the age of 27. Some of the famous members of this death club include Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Brian Jones. Autopsy reports have not been released at this point and speculation is driving headlines.
