Luxury carmaker Aston Martin has announced intent to cut production of the Rapide model, citing lower than expected sales for the luxury car model.

This is sad and surprising news, because the luxury car market is on the road to recovery and the Aston Martin Rapide is an impeccable example of the brand, and would be a superb Aston Martin rental in any exotic rental car fleet.

 

Aston Martin is lowing production of the Rapide to just 25 cars per day in efforts to match the demand. Rumors indicate that this number could drop as low as 10 per day, though Aston Martin denies it.  The total number of Aston Martin Rapide units produced annually will total 1,250, just over half of the 2,000 in original plans.

While the luxury car market is on the upswing once again, the road to recovery may be long, as Aston Martin sales are still only half of what they were prior to the 2008 financial meltdown.
