Ferrari has only just emerged from a 5-year relationship with watchmaker Panerai, and has already announced its 5-year engagement to a Hublot, another high-end watchmaker. Perhaps Hublot can make Ferrari happier than Panerai did! I foresee many Hublot employees indulging in a Ferrari rental in the near future!
Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo and Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver
On a serious note, who doesn’t love a well-made Ferrari inspired luxury watch or jewelry? Hublot will officially be the “watch and timekeeper of Ferrari,” in addition to the “timekeeper of Scuderia Ferrari,” the company’s racing arm.
Hublot will mark the 4th in a chain of jeweler love-affairs for Ferrari, which have included the following collaborations and collections:
• Girard Perrugaux (Ferrari Collection 1994-2004)
• Panerai (2005-2010)
• Cabestan ( 2010 Scuderia Ferrari One, an extremely limited edition, one-off watch)
Oversized Hublot watches were hoisted up by team Ferrari to generate excitement
Ferrari president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo and Hublot CEO Jean-Claude Biver announced the new 5-year union betwixt Ferrari and Hublot under slightly cloudy Florentine skies to an enthusiastic crowd. Of course, who couldn’t feel a bit amped up when on the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, a Scuderia practice track?
Apparently even Montezemolo and Biver were behaving almost giddy during the announcement…awww! Young love! The ink isn’t even dry on this long-term partnership, and prototypes are already underway. There will be a series of limited-edition baubles, of course, and perhaps even a Ferrari fitted with Hublot dash clocks. Well, timing is everything in a supercar!
Biver and his design team will debut their first Hublot Ferrari timepiece at the BaselWorld watch trade fair in mid-March 2012, pricing TBA.
