Ferrari to Challenge Bugatti with Faster LaFerrari

Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo announced plans to challenge the world’s fastest production car, the mighty Bugatti Veyron. Now that the Bugatti was stripped of title, the brand may be challenging someone else for the title. The brand intends to create a more powerful version of its brand new baby, the LaFerrari and pit it firmly against the Fastest Production Car! The current LaFerrari is no match for the Veyron, yet could the next-gen stand a chance?

Next generation LaFerrari supercar will be made to compete for fastest production car

LaFerrari made its grand debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March. LaFerrari has since been embarking on a world tour for some much-deserved showing off. It seems that the new Prancing Horse is also the favorite, as the brand will be diligently working to make her more powerful and inevitably more impressive! The Horse has communicated plans to take LaFerrari up to 1200 horsepower, but will Bugatti take the threat seriously?

LaFerrari

Standard LaFerrari specifications:

  • 6,262cc V12 engine
  • 800 horses (588 kW) at 9,000 rpm and 700 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm
  • Mated to an electric motor with 163 horses (120 kW) and 270 Nm of torque
  • Total horsepower combined: 963
  • 0-60 sprint in under 3 seconds
  • Top speed of 217 miles per hour
  • Just 499 units will be produced, perhaps ever

The next-gen LaFerrari hyperbeast would pack an enhanced hybrid powertrain putting out around 1200 horsepower and vying for Bugatti’s speed title. The ever-ambitious Luca di Montezemolo would like for the next version to be the fastest production car, and is focused transforming that vision into a gravity-defying reality for the company.

Bugatti has held the coveted title of fastest production car since 2010, and is not interested in letting a competitor swoop in for the kill. While Bugatti may have successfully avoided competing with a few underdogs claiming to be faster (we are looking at you, Hennessey Venom GT), they will certainly not be able to avoid confrontation from a front-running brand like Ferrari! This supercar challenge should get interesting!
