A 21-year-old must have felt he could not tackle New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady on his own, so he plowed into him with his minivan.  Ok, in reality the 21-year-old Brockton man ran a red light and nailed a sedan driven by Brady in Boston’s Back Bay section early in the morning.  Not a good day to be him.

The man, Ludgero Rodrigues was cited based on witness statements, after his claim that the light was green when his Mercury Villager van collided with the sports superstar’s sedan.  Rodrigues’s rear passenger had to be removed via cutting off the minivan’s roof and was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in serious condition, according to police. 

Rodrigues has a bit of a driving record, including a drunk driving charge from November of 2009 crash in New Bedford. He also has some repeat infractions including driving without a license, failure to signal, failure to use child safety seats, failure to use seatbelts and driving an uninspected vehicle, according to data from the Registry of Motor Vehicles.  Hmm.  I wonder who was being truthful in this situation.

So what was Tom Brady driving?  That would be an Audi S8 sedan, a fantastic exotic or luxury rental car.  Witnesses reported Brady appearing shaken after the crash, but he recovered quickly and later teammates said he was ok.  According to linebacker Tully Banta-Cain,
 

"I saw him, I asked him if he was OK, he said, ‘I’m fine.”
 
 

Hope that lengthy statement didn’t wear him out for practice.  Brady later participated in a walk-through and practice for the Sunday season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Predictably, paparazzi and photographers were milling about Brady’s empty locker waiting for a piece of the action when he arrived for practice.  Brady’s agent, Don Yee, gave a statement on behalf of the famous quarterback:

"I want to thank the safety personnel for their service, and express our concern and support for the well-being of the occupants of the other vehicle.”
 

Yes, it is certainly tough being Tom Brady, driving luxury cars, tending to your legions of adoring fans and going home each night to supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen.  Hey Tom, you better dust that glass off yo shoulder, Jay Z style!
