The Most Expensive: Priciest Porsches

We all know that exotic cars come with the corresponding price tags, and Porsche is no exception.  Big brands such as Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche seem to set the precedent in terms of pricing and standards.  So what are some of the most expensive Porsche models?

 •   Porsche Carrera GT
•    Porsche 918 Spyder
•    Porsche 917 031/026

The Porsche Carrera GT is a list topper, coming in around $440,000.  So for nearly half a million, you get a luxury car capable of reaching speeds of 205 miles per hour and faster, hitting the 0-60 clincher in just 3.9 seconds.  Yes please.

Up next is the sultry Porsche 918 Spyder, a concept that debuted at the Geneva Auto Show and has since been confirmed for production.  In fact, it is going to be the most expensive production car for the elite company ever, surpassing the half million marker to a staggering $650,000.

Why the higher price?  This model is being touted as a Porsche hybrid supercar, with a V8 engine and 500 horsepower.  It has max speeds of 200 miles per hour, hits the 0-60 in under 3.2, and shockingly boasts an electric power drive-system that allows it to run 15 miles on electric power and consume fuel at a rate of 78 miles per gallon.  Yes, that is about 70 miles per gallon more than some supercars suck down!

But if you want to know what the priciest Porsche in history is, meet the Porsche 917, chassis noPorsche 918 Spyder Hybrid Supercar. 031/026.  In original form, it was a 1970 Gulf-JWA Le Mans 917K coupe numbered 026.  It was driven by David Hobbs and Mike Hailwood in the 1970 Le Mans.  Following a crash, it was given a revamp, fitted with the 031 chassis, and re-issued as a 1972-73 Porsche 917 Interserie Spyder.  It boasts a 5.4-liter flat 12-cylinder engine kicking out 630 horses that weighed 1,600 lbs.

The exotic Porsche was then driven by Ernst Kraus in the 1972 European InterSerie Championship and by Jurgen Barth in the 1973 series, giving it a rich history.  It was sold at the exclusive Bonhams & Butterfields auction at Quail Lodge in Monterey in August of 2010 for $3.9 million.  You know, chump change.
