Rolls Royce CEO Torsten Mueller has paved the SUV rumor path with the following statement at the Frankfurt Motor Show: “We are intensely thinking about entering the SUV segment.” That is a very clear way for the brand to challenge the likes of Bentley and other luxury SUV models. Which badge will craft the most popular upscale crossover?
Will there be a Rolls Royce SUV to compete with Bentley and others? The Bentley EXP 9 F is pictured above.
The concept of a Rolls Royce SUV does not seem as strange when you consider that the brand is known for its high-riding and spacious vehicles. Does that description not bring to mind an SUV? Simply add a bit more height and cabin space, and boom. You see where I am going with this. It is not as startling as the idea of a Maserati SUV or the Porsche SUVs out there. The Maserati SUV concept is called the Levante, and may actually be a reality by 2015.
As for the Rolls Royce SUV, that little number is still in the preliminary drafting phases. Artists are being summoned to draw the mythical beast, and the heads will decide which, if any, adequately represent the moniker.
How it will not look. The photo above is a tragedy.
The brand has been expanding its portfolio, as is evident with the recent release of the Rolls Royce Wraith at the Geneva Motor Show. The Wraith was created to up sales volume via a dramatic price reduction. The Rolls Royce Wraith boasts an MSRP of just $234,000 and there is a convertible version coming in the future. Rolls Royce hopes to sell over 4,000 units next year, and the Wraith and an SUV option could be the road to take in order to attract more buyers.
Visualize the already-robust Rolls Royce in slightly larger SUV form. It has potential.
