WTF: Buick Top Luxury Car for 2011?

Is Buick a luxury brand?  You be the judge.  Not long ago, Buick was nearly killed during the General Motor’s bankruptcy of 2008, rather than Pontiac.  Now, Buick has outsold Lexus, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz so far this year.  Can you imagine a Buick as an exotic car rental, competing with top luxury brands?  I think a Buick would fit into our luxury rental car fleet like Paris Hilton at a Walmart…though the photos are not entirely terrible.

Luxury carmaker BMW managed to beat Buick in sales by 800 units, taking the lead so far.  Buick sold around 15,800 vehicles in February, up 73% from last February. This is quite a feat considering that the brand only offers a four-car lineup, including the Enclave, LaCrosse, Lucerne and Regal.  Luxury brand Lexus offers nine models in its fleet for U.S. customers.

Buick used to be the understated luxury sedan and alternative to owning a Cadillac in the mid-20th century, a slot that was snagged by Lexus long ago.  Buicks are selling like bread before a blizzard, though I cannot pretend to understand the sudden popularity burst.
