The Most _______ Armchair!

The late, great French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent left more then a high fashion label behind. Yves Saint Laurent left behind one of the most valuable private art collections in the world. Paris Christie’s auctioned off 95 percent of the Collections Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé, for a record $484 million and that’s not even the shocking part. The shock heard ’round the world came from an ugly, circa 1917 armchair.

The "Dragons" chair was made by Irish designer Eileen Gray and belonged to a Paris-based art dealer before making its way into the Collections Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé. The chair was estimated to go for $3.8 million but auctioned for seven times more, $28.3 million. Which makes the "Dragons" chair the most expensive chair ever sold at auction. "It was a remarkably strong piece, but what it went for was beyond our wildest imagination," said Christie’s VP and decorative-design expert Carina Villinger. The chair had to be made from real dragon; have a secret space filled with diamonds and gold; or we don’t even know. Robert and Cheska Vallois put up the $28.3 million for a third party. The three things that come to mind are shock, horror and why? To which Cheska Vallois answered, "It’s the price of desire!" Desire and dragon chairs don’t come to mind at $28 million, then again there is no accounting for taste.

The Diamond Standard of Vodka

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend and diamond filtered vodka is just best. Diamond Standard Vodka is the fresh luxury vodka that may just sweep major markets around the globe. Diamond Beverages, LLC has perfected the world’s most expensive vodka filtration process and is presently launching the ultra-premium vodka into major U.S cities. Launched in Miami last week and we got to taste, touch and feel Diamond Standard. Obviously the premium vodka will be kept in the best restaurants, nightclubs and hotels on South Beach, think Prime 112,  Mokai and the Fountainebleau.

Diamond Standard Vodka is produced in Poland, where vodka was originally discovered. Made at the legendary Polmos Siedlce Distillery, using four-times distilled, fine Polish rye and pure aquifer water. The vodka is then continuously filtered through 600 DeBeers cut diamonds for seven days. Diamond Beverages CEO Louis Amoroso told it like it is, "Our goal with Diamond Standard Vodka is to produce the finest vodka in the world. Consumers have had nowhere to go but sideways in the ‘Ultra-Premium’ category for some time. For those who want to try the best, we have created a vodka at an entirely new level and established a new ‘Diamond Standard’ – luxury."

The best tasting luxe vodka, of course, has to look the part. Ergo, Diamond Standard Vodka is bottled in "perfume grade" Saverglass; and then beautified with a 25 mm Swarovski crystal, which overhangs the bottle. Diamond Standard Vodka is crystallized, chic and yours for about $100 per.  Diamond Beverages would like to remind you that, "when enjoying Diamond Standard Vodka, please keep your standards. Drink responsibly." Or just keep it classy San Diego!

The $12 Million Ferrari Exotic 250TR. Luxury Exotic Sports Car Still Thriving.

The very rare 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa just sold at auction for about $12.2 million. This means: A. that somebody still has a lot of money, and, B. a new world record for the most expensive motor car sold at auction has been set.

"The historical significance of this car attracted a bidding war as collectors from around the world – both in the room and on the telephone – competed to secure one of the most alluring and iconic of all Ferrari racing cars," said Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Auctions Europe. “The quality and the provenance of the Testa Rossa speaks for itself and the price we achieved today is testament to that.”

This Ferrari Scaglietti-designed "pontoon-fender" 250 Testa Rossa was one of only 22 ever made. Yet, the 250 TR is one of the most identifiable racing cars in Ferrari history and is coveted by Ferrari collectors. Famous car collector Ralph Lauren actually owns two. Maybe Ralph Lauren can set the new world record with one of his Ferrari 250 TRs, not that he cares.

The good life in Miami Beach is just a sale away because one of the most expensive homes in Miami is on sale. The luxurious pad was designed by Maurice Fatio and sits on the exclusive Sunset Island 1. There are four Sunset Islands which are located in the heart of Miami Beach. This specific home sits on the tip of the first, northernmost of all the islands which is one of the best locations to be. The lot is 70,886 square feet, with 453 linear feet of land on Biscayne Bay. The home itself  is 11,388 square feet and is listed for $29,900,750. That price tag includes 7 bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms, Olympic size pool and the expansive tropical grounds. This property which is named La Tranquilla, not Tequila, sold in June 2000, for $8,425,000. Less than two months later, the property was listed again, for $11,500,000 and the price was raised once more before the listing was cancelled. Now the property is one of the most expensive in Miami Beach, something doesn’t add up. The home is nice and all but not $29 million nice, maybe the listing is a mistake. Maybe somebody involved needs to fix or re-think the listing price if they actually intend to sell.

The Most Expensive Suit in the World

Holland & Sherry, the respected fabric and cloth firm was founded in Scotland in 1836. Suffice to say the firm has come a very long way, Holland & Sherry is offering one of the most expensive suits in the world at $50,000. What makes this suit so expensive is the luxurious material its made from. The world’s first 100% worsted spun Vicuna fabric. Here is the education part, Vicuna fabric is made from the wool of the wild Vicuna which is a relative of the llama. Vicuna live high atop the Andes Mountain range in Peru and Boliva. The Vicuna can only be shorn every three years and produce a puny amount of fine wool at that. Thus, the fabric is one of the most expensive in the world at $4,000 per yard.

Holland & Sherry took it upon themselves to gather the exclusive wool for the last five years, plus, another year and a half to develop the wool into useable cloth. The Vicuna fabric is finer then cashmere and the firm has about enough to make only 18 suits. Clients interested in the world’s first 100% worsted spun Vicuna suit have a limited color palette of f black, midnight or natural to choose from. If you feel constricted by ordinary suits or just hate suits in general, you may want to get yourself into some Vicuna. Think of a Vicuna suit more as pajamas or broken in jeans that are office and nightlife approprate. That is if you can afford to dress like a king, the King of Morocco was first to place his order with Holland & Sherry.
