When Liz Moulton loaned her Porsche Cayenne to friend Alan Thompson for the weekend, neither expected to make the news. In efforts to show his appreciation for the vehicle, 64-year-old Thompson returned the Porsche with a full tank of gas. The problem was that it was a diesel Porsche Cayenne and Thompson filled the tank with standard fuel.
The clip above describes one account of the story.
Moulton quickly realized something was wrong with her Porsche and drove it over to the dealership, where she learned of the mistake. The Porsche dealership quoted her $25k to repair the problem–a figure that Thompson did not find to be a gas. If you think that price is shocking, know that unlike most people, Liz Moulton did not become angry with friend Alan Thompson for his blunder!
Alan Thompson, man who prefers not to read. I kid, I kid.
Thompson proceeded to obtain estimates from other Porsche dealerships that varied in price before finally settling on a garage offering to do the repair for $1,500. That meant, of course, that Moulton lost her warranty on the Porsche Cayenne. That fact did not ruin the friendship, either! It is outstanding to see friends work through such a frustrating and expensive mistake without bloodshed and legality. Thompson stated the following on the matter: “We all make mistakes but I do object to being ripped-off to such a ludicrous extent by Porsche.” Porsche explained that they felt the price reflected the materials and work involved in finishing the repairs properly.
Not everyone reads the signs..
Moulton had the following response: “I was dumbstruck when I was told the cost. I didn’t know what to say or do. I could not be furious with Alan but I was furious with Porsche. I just thought for goodness sake.” Goodness, indeed! It is still out there people, what a heartwarming story.
