Lamborghini Urus Shows Off at Beijing Auto Show

Lamborghini has unveiled the Urus–a controversial SUV concept that has left rumor mills with smoking wheels! At first glance, the Urus’s front end is decidedly Lamborghini, but the pronounced SUV shape is somehow difficult to swallow from a sports car that literally hugs the ground! The name was previously rumored to be the Lamborghini MLC, but they pulled a fast one and renamed this bull.

This concept SUV marks the brand’s first attempt at one since 1985 when the LM002 emerged. Hopefully, the Urus will fare better than the all-but-forgotten LM002!

The 600-horsepower Urus SUV made its debut at the Beijing International Auto Show, perhaps as a nod to the increasing interest in larger luxury vehicles in that region. Last year, Chinese consumers purchased 2.1 million SUVs (according to J.D. Power and LMC Automotive). The name Urus is an extinct breed of bull, now given new life as part of the raging bull lineage. It is still, however, in concept form.

Lamborghini is typically very low to the ground, so it just looks odd to see one perched on SUV wheels and enlarged a bit.

According to Lambo CEO Steve Winkelmann, “If you’re going to enter a new segment, you have to remain true to your core values. Our core values are uncompromising, extreme and Italian.”
