The Audi R8 Continues to Transition and Change Gears

Audi R8

The deservedly popular Audi R8 continues to evolve into new variants. Rolling out in 2007 as an exotic sports car that truly does possess the capacity to serve as a daily driver, it is now even more versatile in 2016 format. While the outward appearance of the R8 has received minimal updates over the years, it is certainly up-to-date under the hood.

The 2016 Audi R8 at a glance:

  • The chassis is the new Audi Space Frame. It is comprised of durable and lightweight aluminum and carbon fiber and tips the scales at a scant 3,205 pounds dry. To get the true running weight, add fluids and an average sized driver.
  • That makes for an impressive 110-pound weight loss for the nice lady since the previous model year. The new frame provides a 40% increase in strength.
  • Engine configurations this year are as follows: A 5.2-liter V10 standard at 532 horses or an R8 V10 Plus version kicking out 602 horses.
  • The V10 Plus sibling nails the 0-60 mile per hour jump in 3.2 seconds with a top speed of around 205 miles per hour. These specs put it nearly head-to-horn with the vicious Lamborghini Huracan, with the Audi R8 Plus being a single horse stronger and 3 miles per hour faster. This would, of course, depend on who was behind the wheel of each car during a race because with such close specs, it may come down to pure driving skills.
  • The gearbox is a specialized 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch with new features added for 2016. It boasts launch control, manual paddle shift, comfort, auto and dynamic driving modes.

Overall, the key changes to the Audi R8 have maintained a steady and respectable pace over the years. The brand has beautifully managed to maintain the integrity of the look and feel while continuously keeping her updated in all of the important areas. read more

Fifty Shades of Audi

For those who have not noticed, Audi is positioning itself as the car for the young affluent types. One would have to be blind not to see the spicy Audi R8 supercar serving as the ride of choice of frontrunners like Iron Man and Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey erotic thriller. Exotic meets erotic meets superhero? Tie me up…err…sign me up! Audi appears to like the domination approach, taking over the headlines and jockeying for that special spot as the top choice for wealthy youth. Check out the Audi commercial below, designed to coincide with the premier of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie recently:
So why is Audi taking this approach on the market when competitors like BMW and Mercedes-Benz are strategically targeting the more mature drivers? With the three brands in constant competition and also the top three tiers on the market, it would seem that Audi is eager to set their brand apart from the traditional standards. While those who could afford flashy luxury cars and the entire lifestyle have typically been members of the older crowd in the past, there is a new generation of young entrepreneurs. These young wealthy types are just as eager to separate themselves from previous norms by driving different things—and that is why Audi’s doors are wide open! read more

Audi Nanuk Quattro Concept: Another Supercar?

Audi Nanuk Quattro

Audi is known for its line of supreme luxury vehicles, with the show-stealer being its only supercar, the R8. That mindset may be about to change with the entrance of the Audi Nanuk Quattro concept.

Will the Audi Nanuk Quattro concept dazzle the world in the same way that the long-running R8 managed?

The Audi Nanuk Quattro could be the lovechild of the beloved R8 and a Lamborghini. The reason for this vague resemblance may be the designers. The same design team responsible for the Italdesign Giugiaro Parcour created the Nanuk Quattro concept. It is being described as a supercar-meets-crossover. read more
