What a Concept: The Ferrari F142

The long lines for Ferrari’s latest prancing horse, the Ferrari F430, have begun to vaporize and rumors are now circulating about a successor.  The Ferrari F142 is making headlines, and if you’d like to avoid lines, go snag an F430 Spider now!

The epic waiting lists for a Ferrari are part of the thrill of ownership, because it is like waiting for a new baby to arrive.  The F430 successor, code-named F142, is anticipated to be unveiled at the Frankfort Motor Show this fall.  As always, spy photographers are all over it.

Just like the Ferrari F430, the F142 features a mid-mounted engine.  The F430’s 4.3-liter engine expands to somewhere between 4.7 and 5.0 for the new guy.  It features a bigger version of the 32-valve V8 from the Ferrari California, and direct injection reduces emissions and increases power.  All of this translates to a predicted output of 550-585 prancing horses.  Not too bad guys.  Follow link to see the Ferrari F430 Spider.

The V8 will be bolted to a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox.  The Ferrari F142 should hit the 0-60 mark in around 3.5 seconds, topping out around 200, standard stuff for a luxury car.

Speed is no problem, as it will feature new carbon-ceramic brakes with active dampers to bring it to a not so screeching halt.  Likely a convertible F142 will follow the coupe release, and perhaps even a lightweight Scuderia version.  I do not anticipate a luxury hybrid marketing approach, as Ferraris are still much more red than green.  But the new Formula 1 Ferraris are impressive in the green department.  Baby steps.
