The Stallion Gets Her Wings: The Flying Ferrari 599 GTB Concept

A flying version of the Ferrari’s 599 GTB called the Autovolantor is, kind of, in development. The bananas concept is being developed by Moller International, the same Moller International that has been promising to turn out a flying car since 2000, in existence since the 1980’s with no production yet. Targeted towards the affluent, obviously, the Autovolantor would be a desirable sports car that could sometimes fly.

Designer Bruce Calkins has fitted the flying Ferrari supercar with a specially designed hybrid fuel and electric power system to run the eight thrusters that would give lift to the car, a system that Calkins believes would give the futuristic machine 800 horsepower. Translating to a top speed of 150 miles per hour in the air and altitudes of up to 5000 feet, for an air travel distance of about 75 miles.  Why a Ferrari you ask?  Well, apparently, the 599 chassis was picked by Calkins because of its distinctive shape and natural born aerodynamics. The airworthy Ferrari 599 GTB will conceptually have Back To The Future-like hovering capabilities for vertical take-off and landings, as well as wings and stabilizers for forward flight. Once airborne the car maneuvers like a helicopter, rolling to turn and changing pitch to move forward or backward, ummm we almost have a heartattack just thinking about some joe shmoe flying a helicopter.

Rumors suggest that Moller is hurting and needs new investment backing to take the Autovolanter to the next stage of development. Unless you feel like donating upwards of $5 million, don’t expect to see a fleet of flying Ferrari’s anytime soon.A production version of the Autovolantor, as unlikely as it may be, will cost something like $800,000 per vehicle. Worth the price of flying over bumper to bumper traffic, yes, but not worth the price of a crash, blow-up or crash landing.  We applaud the green efforts of a hybrid engine but are hoping this air-born vehicle never takes to the skies, leave flying to the professionals.

Exposed Girl to Join the Bugatti Family: New Bugatti Veyron Convertible

There will be a new addition to the Bugatti Veyron family this spring and she will be topless. The new carbon fiber colored Bugatti will be an open-top Veyron Grand Sport Sang Noir. In French Sang Noir means black blood, kind of fitting for a wicked fast exotic car. Sans top, she’s quick and can hit 250 miles per hour.

Production will, of course, be ultra exclusive, expect 15 convertibles
or less in total.  As Bugatti only built 15 Sang Noir models in coupe
form, the first of which was auctioned off for $3.19 million. No price
has been set for the Bugatti Veyron, Grand Sport Sang Noir convertible
but a safe bet would be upwards of $3 mill. We are fans of the sexy
two-seater, she makes a statement.

An Electric Luxury Moment: Rumored Electric Rolls-Royce Phantom

Rolls-Royce CEO Tom Purves is down to make an electric Phantom. For the internal combustion engine (ICE) people dependent upon gasoline, an electric car is an alternative fuel car that utilizes an electric motor. An electric motor is usually run on a rechargeable battery pack. Electric is just one of the waives of the future and it is environmentally friendly which we always applaud.

The thing is that the first round of electric cars, although the effort was applaudable most were downright ugly. It’s almost hard to look at a hybrid Prius. Recently many higher end car companies have been pushing to get hybrid and electric vehicles to market, there’s the new Cadillac Escalade and now the BMW Mini E. This brings us to BMW’s subsidiary company Rolls-Royce, CEO Tom Purves, and the Phantom.

In an interview with Car Magazine, Purves said that an electric Rolls-Royce would fit perfectly with the Rolls brand, and expects the car to appeal to city dwellers who are Phantom customers. "Many of our customers do small mileages exclusively in the city," said Purves, who is now the driving force behind BMW-owned Rolls-Royce since July. "For these customers, an electric Rolls-Royce would be ideal."

Purves just drove the new electric Mini, which will premiere next month at the Los Angeles auto show. The CEO said," It is superb: quiet, fast and fantastically fun." The Mini E uses lithium ion batteries and has distance range of about 150 miles. The Mini E’s top speed is 95 miles per hour and it does 0-60 miles per hour in 8.5 seconds. Purves believes that by using the experience from the electric mini project, the electric urban version of the Phantom is a very reachable goal.

Tom Purves also believes that an electric Phantom would be the perfect addition to the Rolls-Royce marque. A properly engineered electric motor is quieter, less cumbersome and would keep in line with the unmatched refinement that we all know as Rolls-Royce. Plus, an electric engine delivers maximum torque instantly.

Cities with hugh CO2 levels better stay up to date on hybrid and electric projects especially. There may come a time in the not too far off future when legislation is passed to limit Carbon Dioxide pollution and your cars might be first to go. A battery-powered Rolls-Royce would come into good use then. Obviously, the petrol V12 Phantom would still be made available. Honestly, though, who doesn’t want to splurge on a Rolls-Royce Phantom and then be able to keep feeling good about it, the more you are chauffeured around town.

Italian Police Keep the Peace in Lamborghini Gallardos

Some good advice if you want to be a cop, move to South Italy. See, instead of driving some lame Victoria Crown, an old Mustang or Camero, you could be in a Lamboghini Gallardo LP560-4. Lamborghini recently donated a third Gallardo exotic to the Italian State Police force. Decked with police decals, gun racks, lights and state-of-the-art video equipment the brand new Lambo is stupid fast. The newest police member has 560 horsepower, a 5.2 liter V10 engine and does 62 miles per hour in, oh, 3.7 seconds. Take that bad guys.

The first generation Gallardo clocked in nearly 87,000 miles for the Italian Police, since debuting in 2004. Plus, old faithful rarely missed a day of work. Basically 30 very lucky Italian officers will be driving the blue Lamborghini Gallardo Polizia, that is, after some intense driving lessons.  The cool quarter million exotic car is more then most cops see in a lifetime, maybe it’s time America upgrades too. Mayeb motivate our men in uniform. It would be nice to join the force and get keys to a 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, right, keep dreaming. Only Italian Police can keep the peace in high style.

Live, Eat & Breathe Lamborghini in Las Vegas

Live, eat, and breathe Lamborghini, if you love it. Those of you who see Lamborghini more as a lifestyle then just an Italian automaker will be happy to hear, that the company now has a showroom in Las Vegas. The $30 million dollar food, merchandise, car, art and lifestyle showcase is at the Dal Toro megaplex in the Palazzo Hotel & Resort in Vegas, baby, vegas.

Keeping with the high class taste that is Lamborghini, the 20,000 square foot space has high contrast marble floors, leather panels and silk fabrics throughout. The space sesigned by renowned Italian architect Paolo Cortese, has a 300-seat restaurant with glass-enclosed wine cellars and private dining tables. The restaurant serves authnetic Italian cuisine, duhhh, and for the meal an exotic array of Lambos in the backdrop scenery. More than $2 million of artwork displays in the showroom alongside the cars, including the Lamborghini logo-resembling "Charging Bull" by Italian artist Arturo di Modica.

Obviously there is a great collection of Lamborghini exotics, and also merchandise at the fashion boutique. If you still want more Lamborghini in your life then stay late night for the exclusive Lamborghini Ultralounge nightclub.

A trip to Vegas this weekend is always overdue but a full Lambo museum could border on overkill.  We do adore Lamborghini but aren’t drooling over this expo, as many of you probably are. We are happy enough driving around in our Murcielago but if you need this then go for it!

The not so good news is that only 100 will be produced total.

The Quattroporte Collezione Cento luxury car has a 4244 cc engine, paired with hydraulic automatic 6-speed transmission that promises the same performance as the Quattroporte Automatica range. The interior is exclusively striking with diamond-shape stitched, Poltrona Frau "Cuoio" colored leather seats. The crowning point on the Maserati Cento, though, is the technology package. In the rear center armrest, an AUX-IN socket, iPod docking station, SIM card seat and USB port so that passengers can view photographs, videos or listen to MP3/WMA tracks contained in other peripherals. The ROOCK, Hard Porsche 911 Turbo RST 600 LM Exotic Sports Car.

ROOCK racing was a premier GT2 Porsche racing team about a decade ago. They have since switched gears and now focus their attention on tuning street Porsches. ROOCK’s latest creation is the 2009 Porsche RST 600 LM which was made to celebrate the team’s 1996 racing victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Package modifications to the Turbo include twin-turbochargers, titanium exhaust, proprietary fuel maps and engine management software. Plus, a carbon racing clutch for precise shifting and tuned suspension. Then for ultimate stopping power in the RST 600 LM, ROOCK put new cross drilled and vented 380mm rotors, carbon swivel brake lines and 8 pot calipers. The revolutionary new 4-pad design improves brake response while increasing brake control. Can you say insanity? The above upgrades allow the ROOCK RST 600 LM to produce 602 horsepower and a maximum torque of 611 lb-ft.  ROOCK’s Turbo does 0-60 in 3.1 seconds and tops out at 212 mph, while still claiming daily drivability.

The original ROOCK front splitter, rear diffuser and ROOCK Le Mans rear spoiler are all part of the new Turbo exterior. This exotic sports car has ultra light aluminum racing wheels with custom ROOCK signature carbon fiber caps where used on high performance tires.

On the inside of this luxury sports car the RST 600 LM carbon fiber trim, oil and temperature gauge, and a push start button. Four point harness seat belts give off the racing sensation in everyday driving. The going price is $249,000 but the ROOCK porsche will be hard to come by with only 25 per year being made. Our advice is try a waiting list…

Beckham Basically Giving his Bentley Away!

David Beckham the uber famous UK footballer has put his customized 2002 Bentley Arnage T up for sale. The kicker is that Becks pimped out his ride first so you don’t have to. He added $120,000 worth of options and extras to his Betley Arnage, making the car worth an estimated $410,000. Stocked with refrigerator, rear television screens, "Le Mans" style wing vents, custom cream leather interior with matching embroidered leather baby seat for his son. The V12 only has 25,000 miles on it and the asking price is only $170,000. The original MSRP for an Arnage T is $290,000, what gives?

Then this car has history too This particular Bentley Arnage T was the car Becks drove into Buckingham Palace when the Queen of England decorated him with an OBE. Plus, the only two Bentleys pictured in the Bentley head office are Beckhams and the Queens. David Beckham doesn’t need money, we figure he just has an awful big heart since he is practically giving his Bentley away.  Brilliant Becks, could you actually be any more perfect? We don’t think so
