Tiger’s Pace and Chase Seemingly Slowing

Jack Nicklaus is clearly “The Man.”  He has won 18 of golf’s “majors”—more than anyone else.  Tiger Woods is seeking to be “The Man” but has lately slowed down in his pursuit of Jack.

Tiger has won 14 majors, and seemed to be a lock to easily catch up to the guy the call “The Golden Bear,” possibly even by 2010, the golf pundits thought.  But, Tiger’s game has suffered a series of hiccups lately.Tiger Woods

First, there was a long, 8-month layoff that involved knee surgery and rehabilitation. Then came the trauma and stress of a domestic dispute last November that catapulted him into the world of police, lawyers, stalking paparazzi, and relentless feeding by the gossip tabloids.

That was followed by the gutter-life revelations of his extra-marital affairs and sexual trysts in places like parking lots of fast-food chain restaurants. All very sordid, and absolute cannon-fodder for the rags that blare at shoppers in supermarket checkout lines.

Tiger is still the number-one ranked player in the world based on points and achievements to-date, but he’s also 34 now and perhaps his best work is behind him.

So what are his chances of catching Jack now?

Well, most great players don’t win a “major” (the Masters, the British Open, The US Open and the PGA championship) after the age of 40.  Tom Watson never won one after age 33. Arnold Palmer’s last major victory came at 34. Greg Norman never won one past age 38. Nor did Nick Faldo.

Jack Nicklaus defied the golf gods and did win his final major—the1986 Masters– at age 46, but that was a blip on the metaphysical screen.

So Tiger needs to win five more majors to become the all-time leader. If he’s to get it done by age 40, and if his rebuilt knee lets him play well for that long, that leaves about 20 more chances, with four majors a year.

He’s played over 50 majors, and has won 14, but that was when he “hungry” and in his ultra-focused prime.  Before he reaches the age of 40, he’ll have five more chances to win The Masters, where he’s very comfortable, having won four titles at Augusta in 13 visits. He should win one more there at least.

He’s got five more U.S. Opens he can play before he hits the big 40, but none of those are slated for the courses where he’s won—Torrey Pines and Pebble Beach. U.S. Opens are tight for Tiger’s long-hitting game, so maybe no more U.S. Open wins are likely. It’s the same for the PGA Championships as they also loom on tough courses that don’t suit his game.

The British Open can be a daunting challenge, with the wind and the weather having humbled many a great golfer. However, when it’s held at the venerable St. Andew’s Old Course in Scotland, as it was this year, it does suit Tiger’s game. He had two dominant victories there, in 2000 and again in 2005, and he should have seized the opportunity this year.

He needed this one, to get the majors total climbing again.  While he played reasonably well in most aspects of his game, his putting was not great and he finished well back.  A win in the British Open would have suggested that Tiger had regained his growl, and would be back on the prowl.

Still, with all that’s gone on in his life, and all that is still to come for him off the golf course, including what will be a gargantuan and costly divorce settlement, it seems it might be difficult for this modern-day, often-edgy, often-unhappy Tiger to overtake Jack for the record number of victories in a major.

So, thanks to the TMZ’s and the tabloids of the world, and the probing, personal questions Woods still must endure, we think the Golden Bear is pretty much safe from the Tiger.

A Luxury Jet Charter Fit For Paris, the City, Too

There are many ways to travel, many of which are well above “first-class”.  For instance, there are private jet charters, which seem to be the preferred method of transport for the world’s elite and the wealthy.  Like paparazzi favorite, Paris Hilton.

When your parents are literally made of money, it seems traveling is not so tiresome.  Recently, Paris took off to South Africa, where the World Cup was being hosted in a luxury aircraft charter, from which she tweeted photos to her followers.

The Reign of Spain

Spain Wins World CupSo it is "Ole! Ole-Ole-Ole!"  that is ringing out across Spain and everywhere there are fans of the now-World Cup Champions for 2010.

Spain claimed its first ever world soccer title with a 1-0 extra-time victory over the Netherlands in Sunday’s final in Johannesburg, South Africa.

It was a rough game, with the Dutch having played very aggressively, tackling dangerously-hard, taking legs out from under Spanish forwards, and, in general, playing what some described as "dirty football."  They said they felt they had to be aggressive in an effort to stop Spain from its famous "keep-away" tactics of ball possession.

The hard tackling and repeated fouls and holding resulted in 13 "yellow-cards" or cautions handed out by the referee during the match. Eight were slapped on the Dutch, and by the final minutes, they were forced to play one-man short as a result of all the "carding."

With the man-advantage, Spain was able to capitalize, as Andres Iniesta scored the winner with four minutes left in a thirty-minute extra period, giving Spain the 1-nil victory and preventing the match from being decided on penalty-kicks.

Observers around the world were critical of the way the championship game was played, saying the final was "not good football." Among the critics was Sepp Blatter, the boss of FIFA, the world governing body for football, who said it was "a shame," and that a "lack of fair play" in his view, spoiled the final. Even former Dutch superstar, Johan Cruyff, who led the Netherlands to World Cup final appearances in 1974 and 1978, was unimpressed with the play of his countrymen, calling it "dirty and ugly" and he added that Spain deserved the victory.

For their part, the Spaniards are just happy to be home, with the victory and with the trophy. They have the coveted golden statue in their hands for the first time in the 80-year history of the tournament, and they become just the eighth team in the world ever to win it.

The team flew to Spain immediately from South Arica to begin celebrating with their fans. When their plane arrived at Madrid’s Barajas Airport on Monday morning, goalkeeper and team captain, Iker Casillas, was first to emerge and he raised the World Cup trophy for the hundreds of cheering airport workers who began chanting "Campeones" or "Champions" as the players filed off into the 100-degree heat.

The squad had an audience with the Spanish King, Juan Carlos, and later with the country’s Prime Minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and then set off for an open-topped bus tour around the capital city where throngs of people lined the streets, cheering, singing and waving flags. The bus tour would be followed by a giant rally on a specially set-up stage on the banks of the Manzanares river where hundreds of thousands of fans gathered.

Suffice it to say, there will be quite a "fiesta" going on in Spain this week.

And it’s safe to assume that the players are happy for another reason.  In addition to the huge salaries they will return to at their individual clubs like Real Madrid, and Barcelona FC, the FIFA organization gives 31-million Euros to the Spanish Soccer Federation for the World Cup victory. Each of the 23 players will receive 600,000 Euros, or  $756,000 USD for their victory.  Ole!

Nice pay for a month’s work. That might just put another luxury car in the driveway, and certainly afford them any luxury car rental in any city they choose!

Really?  The NBA’s top player turns his decision about where to play next year into TV reality affair?  Yes, it came down to that.  But it seems the world has become accustomed to that route.

But however cheesy, and however manipulative it was, however it was milked to keep the NBA top-of-mind in the off-season…..it is official, LeBron James is headed for Miami!

He will complete a troika of superstars that will now patrol the hardwood in South Florida and turn the Heat into instant favorites to win the league title.

World Cup: And Then There Were Four

2010 World Cup FinalsThe thrilling, often-mystifying, heart-in-mouth suspenseful, vuvuzela-blaring World Cup tournament in South Africa is down to four teams in the chase for soccer supremacy.

And it’s not the four countries people were expecting to be there.

Top-rated Brazil is gone, and so is perennial contender, Argentina. Both were shock losers on the weekend in quarterfinal action.  Brazil was sent home by the hard-working, methodically efficient Dutch team; and the mercurial and emotional stars on Argentina were disgraced by a 4-0 loss to Germany.

Top 5 Eccentric Lamborghini Paint jobs

Crazy Lamborghini PaintjobSometimes I spot an exotic car and it is customized to the point of…well…you be the judge.  Here are 5 Lamborghini’s with paintjobs that say “HEY! Look at me! I am different!”  I can’t wait to scan your comments below.

First up is a Lamborghini Gallardo that the owner may struggle to find in a crowded lot, because it blends in so well (note sarcasm).  Really though, what must this individual have been thinking?  I assume the thought process was shut down.  Graffiti is in poor taste anywhere, even on an extreme luxury car like this Gallardo!

Up next is rapper 50 Cent, who decided chrome rims simply were not enough for his Lamborghini Murcielago-so he made the entire car out of it.  Yes, it is an exotic car that doubles as a mirror, so that the rapper 50 Cent Chrome Lamborghinican ogle himself from every angle.  Hey, who wants to see the car, right?  Grab some shades and check it out.

When I picture a Lamborghini, I tend to picture it in yellow, black, white or red (the main colors).  I do not picture it in blue, decked out as a police cruiser, yet that is certainly what has happened in Cremona, Italy!  This makes me want to be an Italian police officer…and no one could issue me the dreaded speeding ticket!

Going along with the odd color scheme is this pink Lamborghini.  I have no words for this other than to say a Lambo is not a Mary Kay car and bubble-gum pink is not flattering.  Sigh.

Up last is this bedazzled eyesore of a toy Lamborghini.  Comprised of around 7,668 crystals, this Lamborghini LP 640 toy will set you back $2,500 dollars.  Don’t worry, the doors are fully functional and you can imagine a smaller version of yourself behind the wheel…or for that price you could indulge in one of the best Lamborghini rentals availableItalian Police

Jersey Shore Meets Miami

The infamously tacky cast of “Jersey Shore” is being transplanted to chic Miami for season 2.  Yes, the self-proclaimed “Guidos/Guidettes” will be touting their self-centered, trashy idea of sophistication that so many have come to adore on our beach lines.  And will the world ever be watching!  The question iJersey Shore Miami Casts, will Miami accept the cast?

That is the thing about Reality TV, the more outrageous, the more people want, and then it must continue to become more shocking to please the audience.  And this theory is no different when it comes to the cast of Jersey Shore.
