If you are an avid technology geek, and currently have your brand new 3-D HDTV and 3-D Blu-ray player prominently displayed in your entertainment area at home, you likely already know that there are some issues. The most obvious issue being, what the hell to watch? Companies are not just dragging their feet to release 3D videos after the onslaught of 3D films that have hit the big screen-they are tripping over them!
Because unless you are 12, most of the latest Blu-Ray and HDTV compatible options are limited to children’s films. And what is going on with the new 3D burst? Companies have burst forth with delightful 3D theater experiences; yet appear to be dragging their feet in the area of releasing those same flicks in 3D for consumption. What I am trying to relay is, I want a kick-ass 3D experience available from the comfort of my home, on a screen the size of a small spaceship, so that I can make all of my friends jealous…I mean, so I can enjoy my favorite theatrical performances in 3D.
In racing news, it has just been announced that Red Bull Technology will supply Lotus Racing with its gearbox and hydraulic systems for the start of the 2011 racing season. Yes, despite its dramatically short racing history, Red Bull has proven itself worthy of supplying power to the Lotus Racing Team.
To cover the brief history of Red Bull Racing, it is one of two Formula One teams owned by Austrian beverage company “Red Bull”, which hit the world by storm with its induction a few years back (the other team is Scuderia Toro Rosso). Red Bull Racing was born in September of 2004, when the Jaguar Racing Formula One constructor and racing team was put up for sale by then-owner Ford Motor Company. Ford Motor Company claimed it could “no longer make a compelling business case for any of its brands to compete in the F1”. Toyota recently made the same hard decision with its Toyota F1 Racing Team because of the hard impact the economic crisis has had on the automotive industry.
Smirnoff has been displaying an increasing urge to create its own unique television content, and the brand continues its quest for domination as Diageo Smirnoff launches its first brand-produced reality show. The show will be called “Master of the Mix”, a reality competition and ad campaign rolled into one neat little package.
The show will feature a lineup of seven top DJs who will compete for the title of “Master of the Mix” and $250,000 in cash and prizes in various cities including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Miami and London. This sounds similar to reality shows like “Top Chef”, “America’s Next Top Model” and the like. Yawn…I feel like this reality craze is spinning out of control. I would love to see some fresh ideas generated by the major brands of the world. Continuously repeating what caused others success in the past does not breed creativity, but rather stagnates the entertainment industry.
Something awesome is going on in South Florida. If you are having trouble deciding whether to hit up Sun Life Stadium to see the Dolphins play or to venture out to the clubs of South Beach, you no longer have to make that choice! Now Dofans can club at the game, thanks to a special game-day experience called “The Experience by LIV at Sun Life Stadium”.
At this game-day event, up to 400 fans can mesh luxury partying with the home games, for a price. The Liv Experience is located in the West End Zone on the 200 and 300 levels of the stadium, offering up more than 10,000 square feet of party space. There are two bars, luxe private cabanas, VIP tables, oversized TV, a dance floor and DJs to create the South Beach club vibe during the games!
While we never give names, we can’t resist relaying some of our favorite chauffeur stories for our fans, the stickier and more compromising, the better! One of my favorites took place a crisp November night in Miami, when we picked up a gentlemen and his lovely date in our Lincoln Towncar Stretch Limousine.
They requested that Imagine Lifestyles drive them to a business event that included a dinner, which was approximately a 40-minute ride in the chauffeured limo Miami. Soon after departure, the happy couple began to disagree boisterously, covering various issues. The driver could not wait to drop them off at their function. Nearly every couple has a spat from time to time, but this was ridiculous.
Finally, the limo rental Miami pulls up to deliver the happy couple to their event. The driver pulls away after opening their doors to reveal their smiling faces, eager to relax with some good music in the limo alone until they are ready to depart.
Luxury car makers BMW and Mercedes-Benz seem to be having a bit of a marketing squabble as of late, with nasty quotes being tossed back and forth like punches…soft, luxurious punches.
Yes, the race for the coveted top slot in the Indian luxury car niche seems to be rough, and is getting dirtier as both luxury companies spray a bit of mud from under their pricey tires. Arch rivals and world-renowned luxury car companies BMW and Mercedes-Benz do not seem to be seeing eye to eye, but rather, seething eye to eye, via the press.
Mercedes-Benz has been pointing an accusing finger at BMW, saying they feel that BMW is offering lavish discounts and de-contenting its exotic cars, in particular the 3-Series sedan in efforts to rise to the top. BMW has countered this accusation by saying that Mercedes-Benz is feeling the pressure of competition and therefore losing composure. Ouch! It seems to me that BMW is the ‘Frazier’ of this battle, with a witty and sophisticated approach to engagement.
Even writing that headline amused me, and so did the antics of singer and minority owner of the Miami Dolphins, Gloria Estefan. Estefan climbed from the window of her luxury box at Sunday nights Dolphins Vs New York Jets game, due to the entrance becoming inexplicably locked.
It seems Estefan and guests became trapped somehow in the luxury box at Sun Life Stadium in Miami sometime prior to halftime of the game. Now people are talking about how badass Estefan is for kicking off her Dolphin-colored Yves Saint Laurent pumps and essentially became like Spiderman, scaling down from the third-level of the stadium as fans watched and snapped photos from below. You go girl!
It remains unclear how the high-profile group became stuck in the luxury box, but it has been reported that locksmiths, stadium security and even local firefighters failed at freeing the group. I think it is kinda sexy that Estefan climbed out the window, rather than waited for a rescue like a fairy tale. She’s like 007, I think for the next Dolphins game she should just use our Aston Martin rental free of charge, and be James Bondish.
So was it an attempted sabotage from a Jets fan? Well, if that is indeed what it was, Estefan still made it from her suite to the football field in time to introduce Enrique Iglesias for his halftime show. I find this to be awesome, well done Gloria!
For my movie buffs out there who also happen to be luxury motorbike fans, the movie ‘Wall Street, Money Never Sleeps’ features two Ducati D16RR’s. These are rare superbikes, only 1500 were made by Ducati for the retail market.
Ducati branded each of the 1500 D16RR motorcycles with a special number to differentiate them all, which is another thing that makes them special, aside from their exclusive status. So it is cool that two of these Ducati bikes made it onto the big screen.
It seems the luxury bike company has been on a bit of a PR mission lately, donating two Ducati Multistradas to the Pope for his personal motorcade, and starring on the big screen. Money never sleeps, and neither does Ducati. That is fine with me, if it is fast and expensive, it has my attention, and Ducati makes amazing motorcycles.
If you find yourself in stunningly scenic Vancouver, Canada, you may want to stop in at the Cactus Club Café and have a look at their award-winning luxury loos. For the culinary and curious types, it would be a unique treat because the best seats in the house are reportedly in the washroom!

Yes, the Cactus Club Café has earned the first-ever prize for Canada’s best public restroom. The contest is orchestrated by Ohio-based Cintas Corporation, provider of restroom hygiene products and services. While this competition has run for a few years in the United States, this marks the first year in Canada. The luxury restaurant was presented with a plaque of recognition that it will likely display proudly. These must be some thrones!
