Steve McQueen Modified Porsche Boasts Kill Switch For Rear Lights

The last Porsche owned by legendary Steve McQueen is officially for sale, and it boasts a rather James Bond style feature: a kill switch on the dash to turn off the rear lights. The star added this modification to several of the vehicles in his fleet, and it does not require a genius to understand the purpose.

The 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo will hit the auction block August 13th, 2015 in Monterey, California. It is expected to change hands for over a million USD.

‘Hey Jude’ Was Originally Created in an Aston Martin DB6

Aston Martin DB6

There is a very special Aston Martin DB6 in existence, and it is not likely to ever be offered for sale. The car was owned by Paul McCartney, which is great, but it has an extra claim to fame: It is said that McCartney first chimed out the monumental hit “Hey Jude” into a reel-to-reel recorder in the car en route to visit John Lennon’s son, Julian.

McCartney was apparently driving the Aston Martin DB6 to visit Julian when this catchy tune crossed his mind, and he decided to record a bit of it to play around with later. The car is now owned by Aston Martin, and they have no intention of selling it. It could be due to preservation, or it could be because some McCartney owned vehicles have not fetched as much at auction as anticipated. read more

Look for the Next-Gen Audi R8 in New ‘Avengers’ Movie

next-gen Audi R8

The next-gen Audi R8 will be gracing the silver screen in the next ‘Avengers’ film, Avengers: Age of Ultron. It would seem that Tony Stark has a passion for the model and it will provide plenty of eye-candy among the action!

The 2016 Audi R8 will be flanked by other new family members in the movie, including the 2015 Audi TTS and the Audi A3 cabriolet. The Audi R8 and the much-loved Marvel series have quite a cute history, with the original R8 hitting the screen way back in 2008 for the first ‘Iron Man’. According to Loren Angelo, director of marketing at Audi of America:  “After eight years of successful partnerships with Marvel, Audi aligns with the evolving narrative of the Tony Stark character to showcase the all-new, redesigned 2016 R8. Having been part of the character’s storyline for the past three Iron Man films, it is a perfect fit for Audi to return in Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron with Tony Stark driving the iconic supercar in its next generation.” Tony Stark certainly is a perfect fit for the ideal Audi R8 owner, perhaps right up there with Christian Grey of the infamous ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’? You know, the youthful, wealthy and easy-on-the-eyes types! read more

Presenters Shed Top Gear Label, Continue Careers

Top Gear

Fans of the hit series ‘Top Gear’ have ridden shotgun with the cast along a rather bumpy road lately, amid the controversy that has ended with the cast parting ways with the show. There is no need to fret, however, as the rambunctious lads seem to be continuing their careers sans the Top Gear label. Where will we see Jeremy Clarkson next? Why the international tour of live auto shows, of course!

The former presenters of Top Gear: Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.

The well-loved series ‘Top Gear’ was cancelled following an altercation between Clarkson and one of the producers after a long day of filming. While the decision to drop Clarkson as a presenter was being made, fans were left biting their nails and the other two presenters rallied alongside Clarkson–eventually severing ties with the show as well, leaving it in the rear view. read more

‘Furious 7’ Lykan Hypersport Skyscraper Action Could Work Because Science

Fans of the Fast and Furious franchise were treated to quite a few seemingly unbelievable stunts in ‘Furious 7’, including the Lykan Hypersport jumping from skyscrapers and landing in…other skyscrapers! But could the $3.4 million dollar hypercar actually pull that stunt off in real life? Science says perhaps!
The clip above details the Lykan Hypersport and offers a glimpse of the action:

Physics professor Lee Loveridge of Pierce College has mentioned that the death-defying skyscraper stunt in the film could possibly be the most plausible in terms of what is actually possible. By analyzing the actual measurements of the Etihad Towers, the space between them and then factoring in the power and momentum calculations for the car, it turns out that Dom and Brian could have actually managed the unbelievable stunt in reality. read more

Fifty Shades of Audi

For those who have not noticed, Audi is positioning itself as the car for the young affluent types. One would have to be blind not to see the spicy Audi R8 supercar serving as the ride of choice of frontrunners like Iron Man and Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey erotic thriller. Exotic meets erotic meets superhero? Tie me up…err…sign me up! Audi appears to like the domination approach, taking over the headlines and jockeying for that special spot as the top choice for wealthy youth. Check out the Audi commercial below, designed to coincide with the premier of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie recently:
So why is Audi taking this approach on the market when competitors like BMW and Mercedes-Benz are strategically targeting the more mature drivers? With the three brands in constant competition and also the top three tiers on the market, it would seem that Audi is eager to set their brand apart from the traditional standards. While those who could afford flashy luxury cars and the entire lifestyle have typically been members of the older crowd in the past, there is a new generation of young entrepreneurs. These young wealthy types are just as eager to separate themselves from previous norms by driving different things—and that is why Audi’s doors are wide open! read more

Lambokhana: How to Punish a Lamborghini Ken Block Style

The clip below shares the adrenaline of blending Gymkhana with a Lamborghini, or Lambokhana as some are labeling the fun. When it comes to automotive acrobatics, few can match the technique and prowess of Ken Block.

This is Ken Block’s take on what is being called Lambokhana–taking place on a handcrafted strategy course. While it lacks in some of Block’s previous shenanigans, it is still worth the watch.

It is safe to assume that Ken Block’s Gymkhana style will remain popular for many years to come. What Block does with rally cars like the Subaru WRX and others is not an easy challenge, and to control a beast like the Lamborghini for supercar gymkhana takes that skill factor up a few additional degrees. That does not mean that this Lambo is faster than Block’s rally cars–it is probably not. It is simply more challenging to control a car like the Gallardo or an Aventador. read more

Porsche To Be First Company To Use Sistine Chapel For Event

Porsche event

For the first time ever, a luxury automaker has been given the Pope’s blessing to utilize the illustrious Sistine Chapel for an event. It would seem that the Pope is a Porsche fan, as he has granted the company use of the chapel to host a set of 20-person corporate events. This could be the most talked-about Porsche event in history.

Hilarious photo by blogger hereisjorgebergoglio! I could not have done better myself Jorge.

Because this is the first time the Sistine Chapel has been ‘rented out’, so to speak, it has drawn worldwide attention to Porsche and the Pope. As we might expect, details are relatively sparse on the matter. Here is what little is known thus far: read more
